Papa Nicholas Reserve Melange Noir (The Black Bag)

So... what does the product name mean? I am sure I am not the only one that wondered. The simple translation for Mélange Noir is black mixture, and Papa Nicholas is proud to also consider this coffee their “black gold” product. They feel a lot of effort has been put into their beans, which come from the base originating from their precision roasting process. One of the great challenges of any dark roasted coffee is getting the bean to its optimal darkest point. And Papa Nicholas has met that obsticle. This blend has all of the brilliance of a super-dark roasted coffee without the burn.
Review
I enjoyed the boldness and sharp flavor of this product. For a shelf brand, it is as good as any Starbucks dark blend. This is an all senses opening product. I confess to preferring darker coffees (although I love ALL coffee). That said, if you are looking for an alternative to the premium coffee giants, this cup is a great place to start your comparison.
Brew Aroma
Strong, but not bitter. Good wake me up cup, or after a steak dinner (just from an initial response). The beans are full, smoky, and exhibit subtle sweet hints of caramel.
Where to Buy
Jewel-Osco, 11oz sealed bag whole bean was $7.99
Origins
Nicaraguan & Sumatran Blend
