CAOS Coffee is an artisan micro-roasted coffee based in Richmond, Virginia that specializes in small batch roasting of only the finest coffee beans from around the world. This ensures that every cup of CAOS Coffee adheres to their highest standards for quality and freshness.
At the COAS Coffee website, it clarifies “Caos” is the Spanish word for “chaos” that justifies the concept behind the coffee. Chaos Theory is the idea that apparently random phenomena have underlying order. Understanding the chaos in coffee is what makes a quality micro-roast.
CAOS coffee says, “The key to great coffee lies in the process of bean selection, roasting, and blending. By understanding both the science and art of how to bring out the best flavor profile of each bean, we put the certainty of a quality roast in every bag of CAOS Coffee.”
CAOS Coffee can be ordered online at their website and has a wide variety of 12oz bags of coffee to meet the needs of all coffee lovers. The different types of coffee to choose from are Costa Rica Tarrazu, Sumatra Mandheling, Colombia Medellin Excelso, Brazil SWP Decaf, Quantum Blend, Espresso Blend, and a three pack sampler. All CAOS Coffee 12 oz bags are $10.45 per bag and $28.95 for the 3 pack sampler. They also offer whole sale products to businesses and “green beans” for local roasters. All of their products are shipped whole bean unless otherwise requested.
With so many coffees to choose from, I decided on ordering the 3 pack sampler that Caos Coffee says is their three best sellers. The 3 pack sampler comes with Costa Rica Tarrazu, Colombia Medellin Excelso and Quantum Blend. I tried both coarse and fine grinds using an electronic coffee grinder. I found that a fine grind brought the most flavor for all three coffees. I recommend grinding the whole beans immediately before brewing (when possible), and store in an airtight spot outside of the refrigerator.
Costa Rica Tarrazu
After waking up on a busy Monday morning and still half a sleep, I decided to start off with two cups of CAOS Coffee Costa Rica Tarrazu because CAOS Coffee says, “This is a go-to bean for a morning cup that will start you day off right.” . The coffee bean is grown in rich and well-drained volcanic soil then roasted to a medium roast. The Costa Rican Tarrazu is named after the San Marcos de Tarrazu Valley. San Marcos de Tarrazu Valley is surrounded by mountains with red soil of volcanic origin and the high altitude makes for ideal conditions for growing coffee beans
Now...time to find out if Costa Rica Tarrazu is a wake me up kind of coffee. The aroma has an earthy smell from the beans having been grown in volcanic soil and the liquid has a chocolate coloring. It has a delicate smoky, full body flavor with great balance, bright acidity, slight bitterness and aftertaste. After two cups of coffee, I can definitely say this is a “go-to bean” for a wake me up kind of coffee to get the creative and productive juices flowing.
Colombia Medellin Excelso
While taking a morning break during a busy work day, I chose to turn to CAOS Coffee’s Colombia Medellin Excelso for my afternoon break. CAOS Coffee describes Colombia Medellin Excelso as a coffee that can be drunk at anytime of the day.
Now...time to find out if Colombia Medellin Excelso is a versitle anytime of the day kind of coffee. The aroma has is of a dark roast coffee that has a smoky smell and the liquid has a black coloring. It has a medium body flavor with outstanding balance. The taste has a pleasing smoky and chocolate flavor, soft, smooth bitterness with a light amount of acidity and aftertaste. After enjoying this coffee all day long, it is without a doubt an anytime of the day kind of coffee to keep the creative and productive juices flowing all day long.
Quantum Blend
After finishing an excellent dinner, I decided it was time to try CAOS Coffee’s Quantum blend. At the CAOS Coffee website, it is described as a super-secret combination of beans that is hand blended in small batches and described as a symphony of flavors. However, CAOS Coffee does give a hint on one of the beans used in the blend. At the website, CAOS coffee says they us the bean used for Colombia Medellin Excelso and roast it to a darker French roast for the foundation of the Quantum blend.
Now...time to experience the secret aroma of Quantum blend. The aroma has the characteristics of a dark French roast coffee that has a bold smoky smell and the liquid has a dark black coloring. It has a full body flavor with outstanding balance. The taste has a bold, smoky, dark chocolate complex flavor with slight acidity and bitterness with a smooth smoky finish. After enjoying this coffee, it is without a doubt a good after dinner finisher or a coffee I could enjoy at anytime of the day. It can be drunk using a drip coffee maker and CAOS Coffee suggests using an espresso maker to make a tasty espresso.
My Thoughts
CAOS Coffee’s 3 pack sampler provides 3 excellent cups of coffee with 3 distinct flavors to enjoy. Costa Rica Tarrazu for the wake me up morning cup of coffee, Quantum Blend for the after dinner finisher and Colombia Medellin Excelso for an anytime of the day cup of coffee. The 3 pack sampler from CAOS Coffee without a doubt gives a coffee lover all day coverage.
At $10.45 per bag and $28.95 for the 3 pack sampler, it’s reasonably priced for good quality coffee for any coffee lover. You can also get free shipping for any order over $50.00. Two cups of CAOS coffee and you are ready to take on the day.
